Take a Break from Wine at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum

The Spruce goose inside the Evergreen Air & Space Museum in McMinnville

Most trips to Willamette Valley Wine Country revolve around the many great wine and food opportunities here, but there’s a lot more to the area than great wine!  The town of McMinnville itself is a charming place to browse, but there are also great attractions like the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, which is located just outside McMinnville.

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum beautifully showcases the history of flight through several exciting exhibits and interactive displays, including some of the world’s most interesting old planes and space memorabilia. The museum is less than 10 minutes away from our Inn, too, which means it’s an easy way to spend a morning while visiting our McMinnville Bed and Breakfast.

Wake up to the mouthwatering smells of freshly brewed coffee and our delicious breakfasts, which are included in the cost of your stay. Our breakfasts are made fresh for you each morning of your stay, and we have earned a reputation that means breakfast will arguably be one of the best parts of your visit. You’ll be well-fueled to enjoy your time at the museum, followed by a relaxing afternoon wine tasting or shopping in downtown McMinnville itself.

Explore the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum

The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is best known for its famous occupant, The Spruce Goose. The Spruce Goose is a true giant in aviation history. It was the largest wooden plane ever built and was designed by famed aviator Howard Hughes for use during World War II. Even though it’s an impressive feat in aviation, The Spruce Goose only flew once, on November 2, 1947.

As impressive as The Spruce Goose is, it’s not the only reason to visit the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. There are more than 50 military and civilian aircraft, drones, and spacecraft items at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. There’s so much here to see, and it’s worth the visit – even if you’re not a big aviation fan! The scale of these planes is hard to imagine until you see them up close, and we’re confident you’ll leave feeling a new (or renewed) appreciation for how these giant machines stay aloft.

Here are the top three aviation and space exhibits you’ll find at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, aside from The Spruce Goose:

  • One of the most popular exhibits at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is the SR-71 Blackbird, an impressive high-speed, high-altitude strategic reconnaissance aircraft. In its prime, this plane traveled at up to three times the speed of sound! Needless to say, it holds records for being the world’s fastest jet-propelled aircraft.
  •  Space enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Titan II SLV & Launch Room exhibit at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. The Titan was the primary vehicle for the Gemini Capsule, which helped propel human flight into space and ultimately led to sending man to the moon.
  • There’s a great new restoration project at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. The F-86 Sabre restoration, a relic from the Korean War Era, was recently completed and is now on display.

You can also take tours at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum, including tours of The Spruce Goose’s cockpit.
